A distinctive handmade museum sandal from genuine leather. The leather insole is hand painted to give a wood-like textured appearance to complement the upper leather flip flop band of this women’s sandal featuring the classical story of Daedalus and Icarus using a special laser-printing technique.
Icarus was the son of a master craftsmen named Daedalus. Daedalus and Icarus are often portrayed in art attempting to flee from Crete with wings created by Daedalus from feathers and wax. Ignoring his father’s instructions not to fly too high or two low so that his wings would not get clogged by the dampness of the sea or melted by the heat of the sun, Icarus falls into the sea and drowns after flying too close to the sun. Icarus’ body was said to be found in the waters surrounding the Greek island of Icaria, hence the name Icarian Sea. It is a story of classical antiquity which warns against excessive pride and self-confidence.
An impressive sandal, special gift for women, best friend gift, art lover gift, history buffs gift.
Also available as a toe ring sandal.
